Northumberland - Gary G. Messner, 77, of Ridge Road, Northumberland, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Gary was born April 28, 1948, in Sunbury a son of the late Ralph and Sara (Drumm) Messner. On June 23, 1973 he married the former Connie J. Ashenfelder who survives.
He was a graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School and later graduated from Drafting School in Reading, Pa. He retired after more than 25 years of service as a lineman from Verizon, the former Bell Telephone.
Gary served in Germany during the Vietnam War with the Army until his honorable discharge.
Mr. Messner was an active member and served in various roles in the former Bible Baptist Church, Sunbury.
As an avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed bird watching, hunting in his early years, shooting and was a life member of the Norry Gun Club. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jesse Gaylor of Northumberland; his son, Ryan Messner of Sunbury; grandchildren Tyler, Rylie, Ryxen and Josie; his sister, Betty Boltz of Pittsburgh and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother James Messner.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury followed by funeral services at 11 with Pastor Jason King officiating.
Burial will be in St. Elias Church Cemetery, Sunbury.
