Gary L. Dobson Obituary

Gary L. "Sarge" Dobson, 72, of Dornsife, passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born Dec. 20, 1944, in Herndon, a son of the late Elsie (Michael) and Andrew Dobson. On June 23, 1984, he married to the former Teresa Shoop and his death breaks a marital union of 32 years.


Gary retired from Creative Playthings where he was a supervisor in the woodworking department.

He was a lifetime member of the Herndon Fire Company.

Gary enjoyed wood working and building fine furniture, history, especially the Civil War, and will be remembered for his cooking.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brook and Randy Flynn, of Dalmatia; two sisters, Carolyn Mull and Rita Dobson; one brother, Scott Dobson; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Roger Dobson.


A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Himmel's Church, Rebuck, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Frederick Faust officiating. Interment will follow in Herndon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
