Fred Ray Ruhl Obituary

Fred Ray Ruhl, 88, of Williamsport and originally of Mifflinburg, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born April 11, 1930, on the Ruhl family farm to the late Ida and Ray Ruhl. He was the youngest of five siblings who preceded him in death (Pep, Bob, Gene and Fern). He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Raker on April 22, 1950, and they lived in Sunbury where he was a truck driver. Eventually they moved to the family farm outside of Mifflinburg where he and his beloved late son Michael farmed for many years. Fred then moved to Allenwood where he was a counselor at White Deer Run rehab and later moved to Williamsport where he worked for an ATM company and had a handy man shop out of his home. He always had a passion for fixing things and was full of many good jokes and stories.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, of 59 years. He was the father of late son Michael (wife Joyce Ruhl), daughters Wendy, Kathleen and late daughter Becky (husband Harold Keister Jr.), and son Christian. He has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Barry Heckman is his brother-in-law.

Fred will be most remembered for his legacy of love toward friends and strangers alike - many whom he converted to become "love huggers" as well.

He is survived by his loving companion of six years, Esther Fuller, who was forever by his side on many a road trip adventures as well as in sickness and in health.

At Fred's request, there will be no public viewing. A visitation will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, followed by a memorial service from 4 to 5 p.m. at Kaufman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2102 Northway Road, Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Fred Ruhl's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society or any cancer research foundation of choice.
