Dalmatia, PA - Fern Ida Schlegel, of Dalmatia, PA, who was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, passed away at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, on July 21, 2025. She was born in Trevorton on August 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Agnes (Reitz) and Max Zartman, Dornsife. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth E. Schlegel, who passed away in December 2024.

Fern is survived by her daughter, Jane (Jim) Petitte, Raleigh, NC; son, Karl (Betsy) Schlegel, Dalmatia; sister, Faye Leitzel, Halifax; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Fern was a homemaker who grew and froze many vegetables and canned fruit for her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing her own clothes. She assisted on the farm, and for many years enjoyed selling fruit for the family business, K Schlegel Fruit Farm, at the Gratz Auction on a Friday night. She was devoted to her family, church, and read the Bible daily.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Dalmatia, The Glen Chapter, #425 Order of the Eastern Star, Civic Club of Dalmatia, Mahanoy & Mahantongo Historical & Preservation Society, Inc., and Millersburg Garden Club.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Trinity UCC, 2082 State Route 147, Dalmatia. An Order of the Eastern Star Service and Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Trinity UCC, Dalmatia.
