Ernest M. Hoffman, 97, of Rt. 104, Middleburg, and former longtime resident of Danville, passed away March 10, 2025, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.
Ernest was born May 24, 1927, in Northumberland County a son of the late Clarence and Vertie (Bower) Hoffman. In April 1954, he married the former Fay Snyder who preceded him in death in September of 2020.
He joined the United States Army Nov. 8, 1950, and proudly served for two years.
Ernest was a farmer for over 50 years at various local farms and then worked for Knoebels for over 20 years after retiring from farming.
He was a member Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hunters Station and also attended Rush Baptist Church in Danville.
Ernest enjoyed visiting his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law Gary and Janet Hoffman, Dale Hoffman, Tim and Marlene Hoffman; daughter Debra Fuhrman; grandchildren Jennifer, Katie, Nicole, Jeremy and Jason; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters Mary Heim and Arlene Brown.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law John Fuhrman; grandchildren Wally and Ashley; and one granddaughter in infancy; brother Russell, and sisters Grace and June.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury where the funeral service will be held at 11.
Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
