Milton, Pennsylvania - Ernest R. Gromlich, 91, of Milton, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.


Born in Scranton on Jan. 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Howard R. and Frances L. (Olmstead) Gromlich. He was married to the former Shirley Jarrett for 50 years until her death in 2010.


Ernie was a 1952 graduate of West Scranton High School and a 1960 graduate of East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 and retired from the PA Army National Guard in 1995. He was also proud of his military service and was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.


He was a teacher for more than 30 years in the Milton Area School District, retiring in 1993. Ernie also coached football, girls' basketball (with his wife Shirley), cross country, and his track and field teams produced a consecutive 40-meet winning streak in the late 1960s.


Ernie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Gromlich of Denver N.C., and Randall and Betsy Gromlich of McKinney Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Thomas Stauffer, of Mifflinburg; nine grandchildren: Matthew Gromlich, Bridgette and Ben Fleming, Neil Gromlich, Jordan Gromlich, Genesis Gromlich, Gabriela and Ben Harvey, Victoria Gromlich, Sara and Alex Brown, and Emily Stauffer; and three great-grandchildren, Lucie, Mason and Brooks.


In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Earl Gromlich, and two sisters, Marion Hartman and Lila Kretchik.


Friends and relatives will be received on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, March 2, from 10 to 11 a.m.at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. 3rd St, Lewisburg. Funeral services will begin at 11 with Rev Katy Moran officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ernie's memory to the Milton Area Booster Club, American Red Cross, or the American Legion.
