Elizabeth H. Kury died peacefully at her residence at Country Meadows of Hershey on Monday, Oct. 7. She was age 85.

Born to Dr. William A. and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Heazlett on March 20, 1939, in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pa., Beth was an only child.

Beth graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and received her B.A. in English from Cornell University in 1960. Subsequently she attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where she served as an editor of the Law Review and later studied Advanced Taxation at NYU.

On Sept. 14, 1963, Beth married Franklin L. Kury, a fellow attorney. They opened a law practice in Northumberland County which they maintained for 20 years. Beth focused her practice on family law and estate planning while also serving as City Solicitor under Sunbury Mayor Samuel Haupt.

In addition to her legal talents, Beth possessed considerable political acumen which contributed to her husband's election to the PA House of Representatives in 1966, and to the PA State Senate in 1972.

When her husband was offered a position in the Harrisburg office of a major Pittsburgh law firm, the family moved to Dauphin County. There, Gov. Bob Casey appointed Beth to the PA Civil Service Commission.

Beth and her husband were enthusiastic world travelers and visited Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and most countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. On her last trip to China, she was honored to be asked to address a class learning English.

Beth leaves her husband, Franklin L. Kury; her three children, Steven H. (Gina) of Baltimore, David H. (Lauren) of San Francisco, and James F. Kury of Sacramento, and her only grandchild, James' son, Hunter.

Services and interment will be private.
