Middleburg - Edna G. Hackenberg, 87, formerly of Middleburg, passed away on Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
She was born March 19, 1938, in Jackson Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Franklin H. and Lottie M. (Kratzer) Royer.
On April 20, 2002, she married Guy J. Hackenberg, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2025.
Edna had been employed in food service at various area restaurants, including the Iron Skillet, Lovey's Restaurant and Pop's West End Restaurant and also cooked for the Head Start program. Earlier in life, she had worked at the Town & Country department store and retired from the Laurelton Center.
Edna was a certified nursing assistant. She was a member of Hummel's Church, Middleburg, and the church ladies' group. She enjoyed crocheting and Sunday meals with her family. She loved babies and had a special place in her heart for her dogs, Lacey, Mickey and Tippy.
Surviving is a son, Robert (Shelva) Martin; daughters Susan (Steve) Walter, Tina (John Jr.) Miller, Cheryl (Joe) Kahl, Tammy (John Jr.) Ulrich, and Kelly Lauver Richardson (Alonzia), Melissa (Kevin Long) Kreamer; stepchildren Lofty (Tina) Hackenberg and Blyth Hackenberg; 16 grandchildren, Justin, Casey, Heather, Monica, Ryan, Carla, John III, Alysha, Danielle, Joseph, Corey, Brandon, Tiffany, Andrew, Natosha and Taylor; 45 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye (Harry) Kuhns and Mary (Gary) Basom, and sister-in-law, Mina Royer.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Terra and Austin Miller; two great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Clyde Lauver Jr.; three stepchildren, Curtis Sr., Yvonne and Vanessa Hackenberg, and siblings Henry (Dorothy) Royer, Evelyn Royer, Bobby (Irene) Royer, Donald Royer, Mervin (Lillian) Royer and Kenneth Royer.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at Hummel's Church, Middleburg, followed by the funeral at noon with Pastor Steve Smith and Seth Beech officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
