Earle D. Cornelius Jr.
Earle D. Cornelius Jr., 97, Havre de Grace, Md., formerly of Winfield and Lewisburg, died on Sept. 12, 2019, at University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 12, 1922, in Lewisburg, Pa., a son of the late Earle D. and Anna (VonNeida) Cornelius. He was the husband of the late Barbara L. Cornelius.

He is survived by two sons, Earle, husband of Patti, of Lititz, Pa., and John, husband of Susanne, of Forest Hill, Md.; four grandchildren, Kelly, wife of Joseph Parlapiano; Hilary Cornelius, partner of Kathy Ludwig; and Joseph and Sam Cornelius; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Paige Parlapiano.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Cornelius, and sisters, Nancy Goff and Dorothy Burris.

A 1939 graduate of Lewisburg High School, he was a member of the school's state championship soccer team. He attended Bucknell University. In World War II, he enlisted in the Army, took engineering courses at Yale University and joined the 82nd Airborne Division. Assigned to the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge, placing explosives on a bridge in Trois Ponts, Belgium, that helped blunt the German advance.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and later served as a field representative with the American Heart Association and as regional director of Keister-Williams Newspaper Services.

He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America and headed two expeditions to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He also was a soccer official.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Bucknell Golf Club for more than 50 years and competed in senior team championships into his mid-80s.

A life celebration will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the Baylor conference room at the Best Western Plus Country Cupboard Inn, 7701 West Branch Highway, Lewisburg.
Interment will follow in Winfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mae Keefer Nursing Scholarship, c/o the Development Office, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, 17837.

I have many happy memories of Earle down by the river in Winfield. Those good times cannot be lost. So sorry for our loss.

Earle, my old tennis buddy, so sorry to hear of your father's passing. Always remember the goods time you had together over all his year.
