Earl Charles Kahler, 88, of Dornsife, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Dornsife, a son of the late Carrie (Schreffler) and Charles Kahler. On June 21, 1952, he married the former Violet Erdman, who survives.
He graduated from the former Pine Park High School.
Earl worked as a farmer.
He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council and was member of the choir for many years. He had served on the Mahanoy Joint School Board.
Earl considered farming a hobby as well as a career and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting.
Earl is survived by two sons, Dennis and wife Janet Kahler, and Eric Kahler, all of Dornsife; one sister, Shirley and husband Clyde Engle; four grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Mullen, Eva Keim, and Edna Kahler.
The viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Leck Kill, where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Vicky Schaffner officiating.
Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
