Dr. Thomas A. Harrison Obituary

Lewisburg - Thomas A Harrison, M.D., 76, of Lewisburg, born on May 30, 1950, in New York, N.Y., died of a brief illness in the early morning hours of Friday, July 24, 2026.

He is survived by Sara Krome, his partner since they met in 2018; his two children, Linda M. (Jason) Drewes, of Mifflintown and John P. Harrison, of Lewisburg; two siblings, Joanie Provencher of Madison, Wis., and Roger Harrison of Appleton, Wis.; and three beloved grandchildren, Arianna, Alexander, and Annalia Drewes.

He grew up in Bayside, Queens, New York City and attended local public schools through grade 9. As a child he participated in Cub Scouts and spent many happy summers at Incarnation Camp in Ivoryton, Conn. He attended Stuyvesant High School, riding city buses and subways to lower Manhattan from Bayside for three years, always walking to the bus stop in his favorite moccasins — even when it was snowing. After graduating high school, he moved to Boston to attend MIT and after two years, shocked his parents with an announcement that he planned to attend mime school in Paris for one year. This was at the height of the Vietnam war — a decision that potentially put his student draft deferment at risk. This caused great anxiety in the family, especially when he told his parents that if he was called to serve in Vietnam, he would stay in France and never return to the U.S. Many months after a very tearful goodbye at Kennedy airport, the family got news that his status was secure, and he returned from his one year adventure to finish his studies at MIT. After graduating and working in a research lab for a few years, he attended medical school at University of Massachusetts, followed by internships/fellowships in St. Louis, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. He met his wife Carolynn while he was in medical training in St. Louis. They married in March of 1988 and moved to Lewisburg in July 1988. Carolynn died battling cancer in October 2015.

One of his joys and passions was shooting Sporting Clays. In his commitment to the sport, he made many friendships. He also loved traveling within the U.S. and overseas with family and friends. His love for music brought him to meet Sara, his sweetheart and partner of eight years. Dr. Harrison was a knowledgeable and dedicated cardiologist at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, from 1988 until his passing. He devoted his career to providing care for his patients while serving as a trusted mentor, teacher, and colleague for generations of cardiologists, students and other staff members. Tom worked for long hours leaving a legacy to the countless patients he cared for, and to the many coworkers whose careers were reinforced by his guidance and knowledge.

The funeral service for Tom Harrison is set for August 22 at 11 a.m. It will be held at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. In remembrance of Tom's life, the family welcomes contributions to the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and the American Lung Association.
