Dorothy Katie Rittenhouse, 87, formerly of Millersburg, passed away peacefully, Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born July 12, 1936, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Claude and Mary (Landis) Zerby. Dottie graduated from Mahanoy Joint High School in 1954.
She was married for 26 years to the late Walter Rittenhouse who preceded her in death in November of 2017. They were married on Oct. 6, 1991, in Lansdale.
Dottie was employed as a data entry clerk, bank teller and was an accountant at a credit union. She saw her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as her life's greatest work. All of whom she adored.
She attended Zion's Lutheran Church of Rife, Millersburg.
Dottie enjoyed sewing, quilting, completing jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed going on family vacations.
Dottie will be remembered for her beautiful quilts, her contagious smile and always being willing to help people.
She is survived by one son, Glen E. Peifer (JoAnne) of Seabrook, SC; one daughter, Jacquelyn L. Wynn (Rudy) of Dornsife; as well as two grandchildren, Pjay Hunsberger of Herndon and Cheyanne Peifer of Beaufort, SC; and seven great-grandchildren, Coltin, Morgan, Cameren, Skyla, Carter, Jacob, and Essau. Dottie is also survived by one brother, Claude Zerby (Mae) of Herndon; one sister-in-law, Carol Zerby of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dottie was preceded in death by two brothers, Reynold Zerby and Dennis Zerby; and one sister, Delores Adams.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, in David's Community Bible Church Cemetery, 1072 PA-25, Millersburg.
