Donald H. Doebler Sr.
March 28, 1934 - September 20, 2017
Donald H. Doebler Sr., 83, of Lewistown, passed away at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1934, in Penns Creek, Snyder County, a son of the late Celia E. (Loss) and Clarence A. Doebler. On Sept. 6, 1959, he married the former Freida M. Hackenberg who survives.
Don was a graduate of Derry High School, Class of 1951, and Shippensburg University, Class of 1962. Donald served in the Army from 1956-1958.
He was a sixth grade teacher in the Mifflin County School District.
He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Donald enjoyed studying and reading the Bible. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, going fishing, hunting and working on Jumble crosswords in the paper. Don was devoted to his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Donald H. Doebler Jr. and wife, Laura, of Virginia, Kevin L. Doebler, of Lewistown, Tina M. Howard and husband, Jackie, of Virginia, Brian D. Doebler, of Lewistown, and Faith D. Doebler, of Lewistown; six grandchildren, Daniel Doebler and wife, Chelsea, Daisy Howard, Isaac Howard, Joshua Howard, David Doebler and Lily Doebler, all of Lynchburg, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Nora Doebler; and one sister-in-law, Grace Goss.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Wayne Doebler and Rudolph R. Doebler; one daughter, Robin G. Doebler; and son, Terry Lee Doebler.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown and from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Ellen Chapel Church, followed by the funeral at noon, with Pastor Mark Hill officiating.
Interment will take place in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
Memorials in Don's honor may be made to Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
