It is with great sadness that the family of David S. Bailey, former Selinsgrove resident, announces his passing.
David was born Nov. 25, 1938, at the family farm in Benfer, Pa. He was the son of Reno and Mildred Bailey. He was the youngest of four children and is survived by two sisters, Norma Spriggle of Lewisburg, Pa., and Laverne Freed of Beaver Springs, Pa. He was predeceased by his brother Delbert in 2007.
On June 4, 1960, David married his beautiful wife Joann. Joann was David's diligent caretaker for over 15 years and she is a woman of Valor. David is also survived by his children Crystal of S.C. and Todd of Lemoyne, Pa. He is also survived by two granddaughters.
David graduated from Penn State University with both bachelors and master's degrees in agriculture. He was an FFA advisor in Seneca, Selinsgrove and Midd-West high schools. He also enjoyed working with the young Farmer programs. In 1986, David began working for Penn State and retired in 2000.
In 1997, he and Joann purchased a winter residence in Pembroke Pines Florida, which became their full-time residence in 2009. At Century village, he was involved in international singers, Bocci club, Camera Club, Repertory theatre and loved attending the weekly theatre shows at their clubhouse.
He and Joann were active members of the Pembroke Pines Jewish center where they enjoyed many of the services, activities and classes. David was also a member of their choir.
David wanted his legacy to be that he was a proud farmer and served agriculture his entire life. David was also proud to be a Snyder County native.
The family asks that donations be made to: Pembroke Pines Jewish Center, 1200 SW 136 Ave., Pembroke Pines, Florida 33027. The Jewish Center provided so much support to David and Joann during David's illnesses over the years.
