Darlene  Schaffer
Darlene Schaffer, 69, of Sunbury, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center surrounded by family.

She was born in Sunbury on July 23, 1950, a daughter of Goldie I. (Longacre) Buch and the late Robert S. Buch. On Aug. 13, 1978, she married Walt Schaffer who survives.

She graduated from Lewisburg Area High School in 1968.

Darlene was formery employed at Montgomery Wards and later the Sunbury Municipal Authority for 27 years. She also supported many organizations and charities.

She was a member First Baptist Church in Sunbury.

She loved playing the piano and organ at church. Darlene especially loved lighthouses and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 41 years she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Rachelle Sprenkle of Sunbury; five step-children, Sherry Polachek, Buddy Kolesar, Samantha Conway, Krysten Clapps and Eric Kolesar; three grandchildren, Logan, Colby and Kaiden Sprenkle, and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Also, one sister, Debra Bastian and friend John Mcalanis; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Brenda Buch; several nieces and nephews, a great-niece and great-nephews, and many cousins and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Joey Kolesar.

Anyone who knew her knows how big her heart really was. She always put others before herself. She was so loving and caring that even when she had a bad day she could brighten yours.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 8 p.m.

Darlene was a quite sweet lady who always looked out for the other person. I have known her since we were about 12 years old... prayers for her entire family. May your hearts be filled with warm thoughts and treasured memories of your dearly departed.

Aunt Darlene was a special lady with a sweet spirit. Always enjoyed the times we were able to visit. God called her home and she will be missed.
