Charlotte Ann Ferster Obituary
Charlotte Ann Sevilla (Smeltz) Ferster, of 521 Hooflander Road, Dornsife, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at her home at the age of 75.
She was born June 3, 1941, in Jackson Township, Northumberland County, a daughter of the late Lee and Gertie (Latsha) Smeltz. She was married to Mark Ferster who preceded her in death on March 1, 2016.
While growing up near Red Cross with her sisters and parents, Charlotte learned many homemaking and housekeeping skills as well as her hard work ethics. She graduated from Mahanoy Joint High School in 1959 where she was active in the FHA, Marching Band Twirlers, Operetta and Glee Club.
Mark and Charlotte Ann Smeltz spent more than 55 years together, uniting on Nov. 19, 1960. Raising three sons with Mark, working, singing and taking fall trips with family and friends are some of the most enjoyable times of her life. She enjoyed traveling with Mark across the country on PA Land Improvement Contractor events and conventions. Watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing also meant a great deal to Charlotte. She loved to attend family reunions and share her famous covered dishes.
Charlotte spent 35 years working in the "fitting room" of Johnson Bailey Shoe factory in Millersburg. She then worked another 20 years at the Selinsgrove Walmart. Many have seen her there working during the evening shift. She enjoyed meeting people and helping them out while shopping.
Through the years, Charlotte has been active in church and community organizations. For decades, she played the piano and sang in the choir at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Red Cross. She was a member of the Idella Rebekah Lodge of Dornsife.
Charlotte is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Marie (Smeltz) and Clair Williard; three sons and their wives, Dane and Denise, Doyle and Celeste, both of Dornsife, and Donald and Francine, of Dalmatia; seven grandchildren, Michael, Misty, Whitney (wife of Jay Thompson), Aaron, Samuel, Keri and Levi Ferster; five stepgrandchildren, Jordan and Kolby Smith, Jade, Jayci and Jaya London; four grandchildren, Thomas, Easton, Morgan Ferster and Tristy Long; and one stepgrandchild, Reid Boyer. She also was an aunt to many Williard, Lenig and Ferster nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Arlene (Smeltz) and Ernest Lenig.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the funeral at 11, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Red Cross.
Interment will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.
The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown has charge of the arrangements.
