Sunbury, Pa - Carrie May Duke (née Derk), age 78, passed away peacefully at home in Sunbury on July 16, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Carrie was born on August 31, 1946, to Arthur Derk and Hazel (Poff) Derk, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was married to, Florian E. Duke, for 56 years, and they remained devoted to one another until her passing.

Carrie is survived by her three children: Brenda (Bucher) Balonis and her husband Robert of Northumberland, PA; Robert Bucher of Selinsgrove, PA; and Jacqueline (Duke) Shade and her husband David of Sunbury, PA.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Andrew Balonis of Pittsburgh, PA; Samantha (Balonis) Garbera and her husband Josh of Lewisburg, PA; Brandon Bucher and his spouse Derek Wolfgang of Northumberland, PA; Rilee Lamoreaux of Selinsgrove, PA; and Cole Shade of Northumberland, PA.

She is also survived by her sister, Terrie (Derk) Mace and her husband Carl of Paxinos, PA.

Carrie was preceded in death by her siblings Ricky Derk, Raymond Derk, and Margaret (Derk) Krieger.

Carrie worked for many years as a manager at Dollar General and later at the Weis Markets deli in Sunbury, where she was known for her reliability, warmth, and dedication. She retired after a long and hardworking career, having touched many lives through her quiet strength and steady presence.

She was known for her sharp sense of humor and her gift for making others laugh, even during difficult times. Her quick wit and playful spirit brought comfort and joy to those around her — laughter was her way of showing love.

In accordance with Carrie's wishes, no funeral, memorial, or ceremony will be held.
