Sunbury, PA - Burt L. Johns, 93, went to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior on June 22, 2025.

At the time of his passing, Burt was a resident at Sunbury Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, in Sunbury, PA.

Burt was born in Shamokin, PA to the late Mildred (Krebs) Johns and Alfred Johns on May 22nd, 1932. He was one of nine children.

He graduated from Coal Township High School in 1950.

He was married to Esther (Morgan) Johns who preceded him in death. They were married June 7, 1952. She passed away June 16, 2012.

Burt took pride in his work history. In younger years, he was employed by Breast Meat Packing Company in Shamokin. He worked at Keo Mobile Homes as Office Manager in Selinsgrove and then retired from his managerial role at Kleinbauers Clothing Store in Selinsgrove having worked there many years.

Burt was active in ministries all his life and was always a prayer warrior. He attended God's Missionary Church in Sunbury. When he could no longer serve God physically or attend his church his prayer life continued.

Burt was well known for his love for dogs. He had many over the years and he called them "my kids".

He also loved music and loved to sing. He had a beautiful tenor voice. He also played guitar and sang with his sisters.

He loved fishing since he was a young boy. He enjoyed hunting with his Dad and brothers-in-law with their beagles. He also was athletic. He enjoyed figure skating, basketball, and bowling, and baseball.

Burt was not a veteran but had a heart for those who served. He donated to Wounded Warriors, to help our veterans. He also had a heart for suffering children. He supported St Jude's to help with their treatments and cures.

He also donated to his favorite ministries.

He often helped his family with a monetary gift if needed. He had a generous heart.

Burt has two surviving sisters, Carole Kaseman of Coal Township, Pa and Bonnie Hawley of Schuylkill Haven, PA wife of Richard Hawley MD. Also surviving are two brother in laws Melvin Reed and Richard Hawley, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and a kind supportive high school friend.

Preceding him in death were five sisters and an infant brother. Mildred Reed of Shamokin, Ellen Tharp of Selinsgrove, Dawn Hoffman of Paxinos, Beverly Progansky of Paxinos and Joyce Reed of Coal Township. His baby brother passed away at birth. Several brother in laws also preceded him in death, Mark Reed, Frank Tharp, Robert Hoffman, King Kaseman and Robert Progansky.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to God's Missionary Church, 900 Susquehanna Ave, Sunbury, PA 17891.
