Boyd E. Gottshall Obituary

Boyd E Gottshall, 88, of Herndon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Green Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Pitman.


Boyd was born in Leck Kill, on April 3, 1930, a son of the late Freeman Gottshall and Lottie Schwalm and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Elwin Schwalm.

He was married to the former Violet Schwalm who preceded him in death.


Boyd served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as a laborer for various companies and last worked at Creative Playthings.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban for 63 years and was also a member of the I.O.O.F Mahanoy Lodge #551 of Dornsife.

Boyd enjoyed cooking for the Ten Dutchman Camp, spending time with family, and helping Lee Schwalm butcher during deer season.


Boyd is survived by a son,Terry Gottshall, of Herndon; three daughters, Donna, wife of Rick Houser, of Dornsife; Ann, wife of Dave Strohecker, of Lykens; Angie Strohecker, of Herndon; a step sister, Norma, wife of Marlin Bohner, of Dalmatia; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother Daniel Schwalm


A viewing will be held on from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban, followed by the funeral at 2:30, with the Rev. John Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Paul's U.C.C Cemetery, Urban.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Boyd's memory may be made to St. Paul's UCC, 1473 Urban Road, Herndon, PA 17830.
