SANDUSKY, Ohio - Longtime Sandusky resident Betty C. 'Big Red' (Griner) Palazzo, whose goal was "to live forever," will live forever in the hearts and minds of her friends and family. Betty went from this life to the next surrounded by her loving family on Tyler Street. Betty, who danced her way into the heart of Joseph S. Palazzo for 62 years, preceded her in death in 2005. Betty has left to carry on her love of family and life her children, Betty Jo 'BJ' Woodruff, of Celina, Ohio, Mary Ann Palazzo, of Key Largo, Fla., Joseph 'Joe' (Judy), of Key Largo, Donna Palazzo (Matthew Skiles), of Huron, Ohio, and Charles 'Chip' Palazzo (Timothy Hogan), of Lewisburg, Pa.; along with grandchildren, Heather Woodruff (Dave Fulton), of Evergreen, Colo., Tiffany Palazzo, of Key Largo, Troy Woodruff, of Phoenix, Ariz., Katharine Graf, of Columbus, Ohio, Nicholas, Chase and Maximilian Palazzo, all of Denver; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lydia (Ramseyer) and Fred Griner; brother, Clair; and sister, Mary; and granddaughter, Renee Woodruff. A long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sandusky, she was an entrepreneur, local businesswoman and avid golfer. As a competitive golfer, Betty played at Mills Creek Golf Course into her late 70s. Paired frequently with friends Josephine LaGrass, Margaret Amerine, and Esther Maus, Betty played in the YMCA Golf League and in the Mills Creek Ladies Golf Association. Betty graduated from Sandusky High School in 1942. As class secretary, Betty continued to serve her classmates by helping to plan several class reunions. This past summer she attended her 72nd class reunion, which included 21 of her classmates. In her professional life, Betty was a natural leader and mentor of businesswomen in Northeast Ohio, selling and marketing cosmetics and health supplements for decades. In the early 1960s, and for more than 20 years, Betty owned and operated Fashion Two Twenty, Inc., one of the first national cosmetics company's in the United States. As a director, Betty built an organization of more than 40 sales professionals and was frequently honored as a regional sales leader, regularly qualifying for new automobiles, family vacations and travel, and trips to national sales conventions year after year. Betty was past president of the Italian American Beneficial (IAB) Club Women's Auxiliary and earned Business Woman of the Year honors from the Sandusky Chapter of the Business and Professional Woman's (BPW) organization in the early 1980's. As one of the founding members of the Briarcrest Swim Club, Betty and Joe eventually operated the club's concession stand for more than a decade. Betty's homemade spaghetti sauce was the staple of the annual dinners hosted at the Club to raise funds for the swim team. To commemorate Betty's life, there will be a service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills Street, Sandusky, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Tuesday with a visitation one hour prior to service. The family is being assisted by Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights and will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 17, between the hours of 5 - 8 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and Stein Hospice Services, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio.
