Dr. Barclay Marshall Wilson Obituary
State College, Pennsylvania - Dr. Barclay Marshall Wilson, D.O., aged 83, of 260 Lions Hill Rd., State College, died after a short illness on Tuesday, May 5, in State College, surrounded by loving family. He had been a long-time resident of Milton, Pa., until moving to State College upon his retirement in 2023.
Born January 30, 1943, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John Omer and Miriam (Marshall) Wilson, later Miriam Heritage.
For 53 years, he had a private osteopathic practice in Milton at 130 S. Front Street. He moved to Milton from Bound Brook, New Jersey, in 1970. From 1992 until his retirement, he served as the attending physician for White Deer Run of Allenwood. He was known by his patients for being a phenomenal diagnostician and a kind caregiver.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ursinus College in 1964 and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 1969. He completed his rotating internship at Lansing General Hospital in Michigan from 1969-1970. From 1970 to 1980, Barclay served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Practice at PCOM, teaching and mentoring osteopathic medical students.
He was active in the community, especially the Rotary Club of Milton and the Salvation Army, where he was an advisory board member. In the 1970s and 1980s, he performed plays with the Rotary Club, taking on parts where he could get a laugh. Because of his work with the Rotary Club, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award in appreciation of "tangible and significant assistance for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world." From 1986 to 1990, he was the secretary/treasurer for District V of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA).
As part of his commitment to the community, he served as the school physician for the Milton Area School District from 1971 through 1988. In addition, he was a Well Baby Clinic Physician in Milton from 1972 to 1988. More recently, he served as the medical director for Danville Center Adolescent Female (DCAF) from 2004 until 2006.
Barclay was a longtime member of St. Paul's UCC, joining at its original West Milton location and helping the church transition to its current location in Lewisburg. As a member for over 50 years, he took on many roles at the church: leading the Sunday School, singing in the church choir, serving on the consistory as a deacon and then as president, and helping the church's search committee to find the current pastor.
Since moving to the Village at Penn State, he was a regular at the Poetry Circle, served on the Recycling Committee, and frequently attended the many lectures and concerts.
A loving and supportive father and proud grandfather, he was a hard-working and dedicated community servant. Barclay was a lifelong lover of learning, seeking out new experiences. He was an aficionado of music from all genres. Those who knew him considered him to be gentle, kind, compassionate, smart, open-minded, and funny.
Survivors include his children, Alyce Wilson and husband Mike Ryan of Havertown, Andrew Wilson of Corinth, Vermont, and Elli Bragg and husband Jeff Bragg of State College; and five grandchildren, Jude Wilson, Rachael Wilson, Graham Ryan, Fiona Bragg, and Maizie Bragg. He was predeceased by his former wife, Vivian Starr.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at 12 p.m., at St. Paul's @ the Farm United Church of Christ, 50 Brookpark Circle, Lewisburg, with Rev.
