Barbara Schultz Obituary

Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania - After a three-year courageous battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia, it is with great sadness that we say farewell to a beautiful soul.

In the early hours on Friday, July 11, while at home in the loving arms of her husband, Ron Stalcoskie, Barbara Schultz finished her earthly journey and went to her eternal home with Jesus.

Born on April 16, 1955, to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Dorkoski) Schultz, Barbara Ann Schultz, 70, was raised in Mount Carmel. While attending Mount Carmel High School, she began her nursing career as a Candy Striper at Ashland Hospital.

She graduated from MCHS in 1974, trained in nursing and respiratory care at Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Technical School and Lehigh Valley Community College, and began working as an LPN in local hospitals. After more than 45 years specializing in Respiratory Therapy, she retired from Evangelical Hospital.

Nursing was more than a job for Barbara; it was a lifestyle that began in her childhood when she would take care of whoever needed help. For those who knew Barbara, it shouldn't surprise them to know that her patient care went beyond the 40-hour work week when she would check on her patients on her days off.

Barbara lived a faith-filled life, attending St. Monica Parish, in Sunbury, and touched all who knew her. She enjoyed traveling with Ron and her friends; shopping until not one more package could be placed in the van; gardening from dawn to dusk until she heard Ron call out, "Barbara, are you ever going to make supper?" She was a meticulous decorator, loving Margaritaville, Mexican, and patriotic-themed items. She proudly watched her "Philadelphia Eagles Fly!"

In addition to her husband of 47 years, she leaves behind sisters, Susan Horan, of Mount Carmel and Mary Margaret Mall, of Middletown; her goddaughter/niece, Amanda Horan-Swatsky (Daniel), of Mount Carmel; godson/nephew, Joshua Mall, of California; a niece, Gretchen Sage (Matthew), of Hawaii; sister-in-law, Diane Sosnoski (John), of Marion Heights; nephews, William "Billy" Sosnoski (Allie), of Halifax and Brian Sosnoski (Jazzmyn), of Catawissa; and her special Buddy, Sky, the cat (aka, Killer).

She was preceded by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, uncles and aunts, and, most recently, her brother, Kenny.

Special thanks to the following for the comforting care and support: Rev. Jerry Kleponis, St. Monica Parish; Visiting Angels Staff; and Pastor Ricky Phillips and WellSpan Hospice Services Staff.

Viewing will be held on Monday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 22, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C J Lucas IV, Supervisor.
