Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - Barbara Ellen Hoover Franz, 79, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic.

Born Oct. 31, 1941, in Sunbury, she was the daughter of the late Annie and Edwin Hoover of Dalmatia.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Howard, fiancé of Doug Sydejko of Linglestown; a brother, Dr. Richard Hoover (Elaine) of State College; two grandsons, Patrick and Christopher of Linglestown; a niece, Jill Prugh (Scott); a niece-in-law, Krista Hoover; two grand-nephews, Mason and Colin Prugh; and a grand-niece, Jadyn Hoover.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a nephew, Robb Hoover.

Barbara graduated from the former Mahanoy Joint High School and Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing.

She retired after 21 years at Highmark Blue Shield as a medical auditor for ophthalmologists, then worked as a reservationist at the State Museum and the Civil War Museum. She retired again in 2016 after nine years as a surgical coordinator in ophthalmology at Dr. Elena R. Farrell's office.

She was a life member of the Penn State University Alumni Association, Nittany Lion Club, and Back the Lions. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lykens Chapter, and of Soroptimist International of Harrisburg, Inc.

She was a loyal PSU fan in all sports, especially football. She enjoyed watching all kind of sports on TV and reading.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown.

Private interment will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery (Dalmatia Cemetery).

Arrangements are being handled by the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown.
