Avis Irene Brosius, 91, of Harrisburg, died March 10, 2024, at the Jewish Home in Linglestown. She rests in Blue Ridge Memorial Garden.


She was born May 18, 1932, likely at the Burt Schaeffer farm in Winfield, the 12th child of Clair and Theresa (Shaffer) Brosius.


In 1938 the family moved to Uncle Lee Bottiger's farm, west of Freeburg, where she attended Red Bank School nearby. Her mother died in 1942. In 1943 the family moved to uncle's farm in Mount Pleasant Mills (near mill). In 1944 Avis moved to her sister Lena's near Kratzerville, and attended Ulrich School. Late 1940s she lived in Shamokin Dam/Blue Hill with unknown family(s), and attended Selinsgrove High from 1946-49. By mid-1949 Avis moved to her father's in Northumberland, and graduated from Northumberland High in 1950. She worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Company in the early 1950s.


Avis was an active member Christ United Methodist and was married there in 1953. She took up residence in Selinsgrove from 1953-56, and moved to greater Linglestown in 1956, where she lived out her life and was a member of Charlton Methodist.


Surviving are a brother, E. Eugene Brosius, Northumberland; daughters, Cathy Coyne, Linglestown, and Janine Hagen, Grantville (both nee Bailey); grandchildren, Brianna, Brandt/Mark, Nicole; and great-grandchildren.
