Archie M. Mowery, 91, of Harrisburg, passed peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at home surrounded by his devoted and loving family.
Archie was born in Danville, a son of the late Charles and Maude (Hill) Mowery.
He was a Combat Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sergeant with the US Army in the 38th Infantry Regiment?2nd Division. Although proud of his service, Archie was very humble about his accomplishments and spoke little of his service unless he was asked. Prior to his tour he was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga.
Archie worked hard all his life, first as a young boy on his family farm, then in the Army, then on his own farm and as owner/operator of Archie Mowery Building and Remodeling.
Archie was a member of American Legion Post 201 Sunbury, and a life member of the Stonington Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of the Moline Gold Collectors Association and Stone Top Gun Club.
Archie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. His love for hunting led him on hunts in Canada, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming.
Archie was proud of his family and was always a constant for his daughter and granddaughter, but his pride came full circle with the birth of his great?grandson who he loved very much and was entertained by for 10 years.
Archie was predeceased by his wife, "his girl" of 63 years, Peggy R. Mowery, who passed in July. He was also predeceased by three brothers, J. Daniel "Danny", A. Lamar, and Chester A. Mowery.
Archie is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Michael) Ritzel; his granddaughter, Lynlee (Rustin) Sheeler; his great?grandson, Kolton Z. Sheeler, all of Harrisburg; a sister, Geraldine Ramage of Dallastown; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. G. Barry Stahl officiating.
