William E. "Bill" Arney, 87, of Indianapolis, Ind., peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Waterford Place in Kokomo.
He was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Danville, Pa., a son of the late William Edwin and Theodora (Stuck) Arney.
Bill excelled in high school sports and met his future wife, Barbara, after hitting her with a wildly pitched baseball during a game. Bill enlisted in the Army in 1949 and married Barbara Anderson on July 5, 1952.
The marriage produced four children, John W. (Badry), of Corona, Calif., James H. (Sandra), of Kokomo, Jane A. (Mike) Beatty, of Indianapolis, and Joseph A., Macomb, of Michigan.
A self-taught mechanical engineer with two patents, his talents took him to many different parts of the country, finally retiring in 2000, Advanced Facilities Manufacturing Engineer from Chrysler Corporation in Auburn Hills, Mich.
Bill was a devoted and supportive father to all his children and especially to his adoring grandchildren, Alecia (Chris) Redman, Sarah (Robert) Drennen, Matthew (Jaci Ives), and Sean William who shared his love of model trains. He was also very proud to be great-grandpa to Tanner James "T.J." Arney. He also leaves behind a brother, Franklin and sister, Jane (Mike) McCleary of Mifflinburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and one sister, Mary Louise (McCormick), of Cle Ellum, Wash.
Bill's family will be receiving friends and family for a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, at the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, 46 Brethren Church Road, Mifflinburg, followed by a memorial service to celebrate Bill's life at 11, with Pastor Eric Reamer officiating.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Mifflinburg American Legion and other local veterans will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
