Theodore B. Smith Sr., 96, of 465 Second St., Montandon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Montandon, a son of the late Daniel Ambrose and Isabella Coulter (Park) Smith. On April 19, 1942, he married his wife, the former Betty Jane Hess, who passed away on Jan. 29, 2008.

A 1938 graduate of Montandon High School, he served in the Army during World War II. He was a veteran of General George Patton's 3rd Army, Golden Acorn Division, in the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the 87th Division of the ETO (European Theater Operations) and received three Battle Star Ribbons for the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He was also a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Following his service to his country, Theodore returned to Montandon where he worked for the Philco Ford Company until he retired in 1982.

Theodore was a member of the Methodist Church in Montandon, a member of the Raymond Ulrich American Legion Post 841, Montandon, the Forty and Eight Post 13, in West Chillisquaque, and the VFW Post 7713 of Lewisburg. He enjoyed traveling and was formerly a member of the Rambler's Club.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ray Braverman, of Dover, Del., and Kim and Justin Jefferson, of Milford, Del.; one son, Theodore B. Smith Jr., of Lewisburg; two granddaughters and their husbands, Amie and Bruce Dunn, of Dover, and Ashley Dragula, of San Diego, Calif.; and one great-grandson, Cyrian James, of San Diego.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane; two brothers, John Minard Smith and Bromley Elwin Smith; and three sisters, Kathryn Smith, M. Agnes Moyer and Olive Smith.

In keeping with his wishes, internment will be private. There will be no public service or visitation.
