Shirley A. Goodling, 89, of Sunbury, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at Peter Becker Community, Harleysville.
She was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Alvin Yeager and Violet (Miller) Brungard. On Feb. 28, 1948, she was married to Carl H. Goodling, former president of C.H. Goodling's Refrigeration Inc., until his death on April 13, 1987.
Shirley was a graduate of Sunbury High School, Class of 1944.
She worked for Fetter's Confectionary Store and Bowman's Department Store in Sunbury. Shirley wanted her obituary to include, "The job she loved most was being a wife and mother."
In 1948, she became a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury, until her passing. Shirley served as vice president of C.H. Goodling's Refrigeration Inc., from 1971 to 1987. She was a 25-year member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Augusta Chapter, Sunbury.
Shirley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey L. and Donna Goodling, of Allentown and Scott L. and Frances Goodling, of Collegeville; four grandchildren, Megan Goodling Mowbray and husband, Brad, Alexander Goodling, Matthew Goodling and Zachary Goodling; three great-grandchildren, Chase, Tyler and Harper; one brother, Oren "Skeet" Brungart, of Wyomissing; and four sisters, Dolores Hane, of Sunbury, Sonja Hassinger, of Milton, Harriet Blank, of Sunbury and Linda Parker, of Allentown.
Shirley was preceded in death by four brothers, John "Jack" Yeager, William Brungard, Ronald "Buddy" Yeager, and Richard Yeager; and three sisters, Vera "Kay" Brungard, Jacqueline "Sue" Leitzel, and Madelon "June" Lindner.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.
Interment will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
