Shirley G. Gamble, 84, of Orange Street, Northumberland, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born Feb. 29, 1932, a daughter of the late John L. "Boomer" and Grace (Heimbach) Gearhart. On April 27, 1956, she married Vernon M. "Vern" Gamble who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2009, breaking a marital union of 53 years.
Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Danville High School.
She was a member and former council member of the Pine Street Lutheran Church, Danville. She was a founding member and past president of the Northumberland Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary where for several years she enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the children.
For 38 years Shirley and Vern where season ticket holders of Penn State football and also traveled to many bowl games. The two also loved to travel, often venturing out on impromptu day trips. She was an avid reader, collector of frogs, and enjoyed Jigsaw and word puzzles.
Shirley always put her family first and is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin L. and Debra A. Gamble, of Sunbury, Keith L. and Joyce E. Gamble, of Northumberland, and Vern A. and Christine A. Gamble, of Selinsgrove; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen L. Gamble, and Kathy L. and Jeffrey A. Bingaman, all of Northumberland; 13 grandchildren, Kelsey, Nathan, Nicholas, Samantha, Miranda, Timothy, Jeffrey, Pamela, Carrie, Heidi, Haley, Karrie and Catrina; 16 great-grandchildren including her beloved great-grandson, Carter; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Brenda Aslin, of Plymouth Meeting, Saundra McCarty and Joan Greely, both of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved Golden Retriever, Rosie.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Pine Street Lutheran Church, 407 Pine St., Danville, with the Rev. Dr. Lois Martin officiating.
