Ronald R. Whitenight, 82 formerly of Riverfront Apartments, Sunbury, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at ManorCare, Sunbury where he had been a resident.
He was born March 19, 1934, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Marvin Whitenight and Sarah Kathryn (Wolfe) and Pat Marotto. On April 1, 1955, he married the former Barbara VanBuskirk who preceded him in death on Jan.14, 2002.
Ronald was a 1952 graduate of Northumberland High School where he played football. He proudly served in the National Guard and the USAR from 1954 until 1962.
For many years he was employed as a truck driver for Hall's Trucking, owned and operated Hilltop Auto Sales from 1977 until 1988 and retired from Northumberland County in 1996.
He was a member of the Fraternal order of Police No. 52 Susquehanna Valley Sheriff's Association.
Ronald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed walking, hunting and was a great trapper and loved listening to country music.
He is survived by five children, Robert, of Middleburg, Steven, of Northumberland, Linda, of Maryland, Dwayne, of Sunbury, Donald, of Wisconsin; and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Whitenight; one sister, Sara Jean Moyer; and one grandchild.
Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, followed by the funeral at 11, with Joseph M. Davis Jr., of Northumberland, Chaplain of Historical War Impressions, officiating.
Burial with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 44, Northumberland will be in the Montandon Cemetery.
