Robert's Story

Robert Lee Hollenbach Sr., 87, who lived in Herndon his entire life, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the Evangelical Community Hospital. He had been a guest at RiverWoods Nursing Center since April 23, 2017.
He was born Dec. 21, 1929, the sixth child of eight to Samuel Sr. and Mabel (Heim) Hollenbach.

Bob was a 1947 graduate of Herndon High School and honorably served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1952, he married the former Helen Jane Kline, of Urban, who preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2004, on their 52nd wedding anniversary.
He retired as a foreman from Creative Playthings, Herndon.
Bob was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, Herndon, where he and his wife, Jane, were dedicated choir members. Along with being a lifetime member of the Herndon Fire Company, he was also a member of Mandata Legion Post 504 and the Pioneer Hunting Club, Centre County.

He is survived by two children; Amber R. Peifer and husband Larry, of Herndon, and Robert L. Jr. and wife Patricia (Swaine) Hollenbach, of Dornsife; Pap to four grandchildren, Jeremy and DeAnna (Cunningham) Peifer, of Columbia, S.C., Cory Peifer, Route 147, Sunbury, Mark and Raquel (Latsha) Peifer, of Dornsife, and Trina K. Peifer and her fiancé, Gerry Schlosser lll, of Reklaw, Texas; PapPap Bob to eight great-grandchildren, Anneliese, Johnathan, Gabriella, Magdalena, Charlotte, and Elisabeth, all of South Carolina, and Jacob and Joseph, of Dornsife; four stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Hollenbach and brother-in-law, George Inch, both of Herndon; numerous nieces, nephews, and his wonderful Herndon neighbors and friends.
Much gratitude to the many special, loving care givers at the Evangelical Hospital, RiverWoods, and to family and friends who prayed, sent cards, and visited Bob while he was ill.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Beatrice, Faye Elizabeth, and Evelyn; three brothers, Samuel Jr., George, and Earl; and three sisters-in-law, Pauline, Dorothy, and Edith.

Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Church, Route 147, Herndon, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Jay Bohn officiating.

Rather than flowers, the family appreciates if donations in Bob's memory be made to Zion Church, P.O. Box 384, c/o Building Fund, Herndon, PA 17830.
