Robert's Story

Robert E. "Bob" Beachell, 87, of Sunbury, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at 10:33 a.m. in his home.
He was born May 5, 1930, in Sunbury, a son of the late Robert E. Sr. and Emma (Campbell) Beachell. He married the former Shirley Harp on Feb. 22, 1951. They were married for 66 years.

After graduation from Sunbury High School in 1948, he worked with his father in the coal business, then for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Harrisburg. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He continued his government service at the Marietta, PA Depot in the shipping and receiving department. He then returned to Sunbury to work at the Sunbury Post Office. After retiring from there, he worked at Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury for 14 years as sexton.
Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
He really loved all kinds of music and working with cars. He was an avid Penn State football fan. He treasured his time spent with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley; one daughter and son-in-law, Roxanna and Jeff Cecco, of Waynesboro; and two grandsons and their families, Jason and Jan Cecco and their daughters, Jordan and Brooke, of Apex, N.C., and Nicholas and Teresa Cecco and their daughter, Sidonia and son, Dominick, of Smithsburg, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edwin "Bud" Beachell; and his sister, Lois Beachell Gebhardt.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, medical professionals, and care takers for the countless acts of kindness and support they've shown over the years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 15 S. Fifth St., Sunbury, PA 17801, which he dearly loved.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
