Richard E. "Butch" Spriggle Sr., 71, of Middleburg, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 10, 2017, at his home.
He was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Juniata County, a son of late Sterling and Helen (Holtzapple) Spriggle. He was married to the former Betty E. Kline Spriggle who survives. They celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Richard served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He retired in 2008 after 39 years of service from Wood Mode Inc., Kreamer.
He was an active member of the Freeburg United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Freeburg Fire Company, and a member of the Lafayette Lodge No. 194, Free & Accepted Masons, Selinsgrove.
Richard enjoyed racing, hunting, fishing, going to yard sales, and flea markets. Richard loved his country and his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children and their spouses Richard E. Jr. and Sherry Spriggle, of Selinsgrove, Laurie and Brad Hufnagle, of Selinsgrove, Cynthia Romig, of Freeburg, Russ and Teresa Mook, of Watsontown, and Allen Mook, of Penns Creek; 15 grandchildren, Dusty Baker, Tracy Foreman and her husband Jeff, Landon Mook, Jason Mook, Brittney Hoffman and her husband Weston, Katie Kratzer, Anissa Mook, Ashton Mook, Adam Mook, Marsha Mitch, Lauren Hufnagle, Robert Hufnagle, Justin Troutman, Richard E. Spriggle III, and Garrett Spriggle; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Collins and Connie Adee, both of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Musser and Betsy Sweigart.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Masonic memorial service at 8, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Freeburg United Methodist Church, 4 Church St., Freeburg, with the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Selinsgrove American Legion Victory Post No. 25 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631, Selinsgrove will be in Fairview Cemetery, Freeburg.
