Richard LaRue Kling, 80, of Lewisburg, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 16, 1935, in Mifflinburg, the only son of the late J. Ward and Gladys M. (Rishel) Kling. He was married to the former Shirley A. Good until her death on Dec. 8, 2001.
Richard was a 1953 graduate of Milton High School, a 1955 graduate of Penn State University, and served in the Army. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather known for his friendly demeanor, generosity, and sense of humor. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Young Farmer's Association of Mifflinburg and Camp Goodlander in White Deer, and was a loyal member to his church.
Beginning his farming career in 1955, Richard had a passion for maintaining the ponds on the farm for many to enjoy and built a lifelong legacy in agriculture.
He was also an avid hunter and was recognized by Union County Conservation District for his efforts in forest preservation.
Richard is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Duane and Cathleen (Yost) Kling, of New Columbia, Scott Kling, of Lewisburg, and Andrew and Carole (Shultz) Kling, of Milton; five grandchildren, Trent Kling and his wife Leah (Laytar), Katrina Kling, Taylor (Kling) Tate and her husband Daniel, Tyrel Kling, and Morgan Kling; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ashton Kling; two sisters, Nancy Hoffman, of Mazeppa and Joyce Coup, of Milton; and his special friend, Eleanor Brouse, of New Columbia.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Road, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Ricky Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow in the Church Hill Cemetery.
