Richard's Story

Richard Alan Ferster, 83, of Richfield, entered into rest on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born June 26, 1934, in Richfield, a son of the late Roy and Mary (Pelman) Ferster. He was married to the former Marian Jean Fister who preceded him on Nov. 26, 2007.

Richard served in the Army during the Korean War as a radio operator.
He began his employment at Barrett later known as Celotex, Sunbury, and from 1974 to 1978 at Shirk Construction, Richfield, and from 1979 until his retirement in 1993 he owned and operated a turkey farm business raising turkey's for Empire Kosher, Mifflintown.
He was a member of a local farm association and the Mahantango Grange.
Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors cutting firewood and hunting.

He is survived by his two children, Sandra M. Ferster and Alan R. Ferster, both at home; a sister, Alice Renn, of Northumberland; nieces and nephews, Carol and Scott Reed, of Shamokin Dam, Karen and Jim Simpson, of Northumberland, and Doug Renn, of Sunbury; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Ferster, of Freeburg.
Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Lynn Ferster in infancy; a brother, Lawrence Ferster; and a brother-in-law, Sam Renn.

Honoring the request of Richard, there will be no services.

The family asks that kind consideration be given to memorial gifts in loving memory of Richard to the American Cancer Society, 1375 Martin St., Suite 306, State College, PA 16803.
