Ralph Robert Portzline, 85, of Heath, Ohio, died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 2, 2016.
He was born April 16, 1931, in Sunbury, a son of Walter F. and Minnie K. (Coryell) Portzline.
A longtime resident of central Ohio, he retired in 2002 after working for the Franklin County Auditor's Office and, before that, as Village Administrator at First Community Village in Upper Arlington.
A lifelong Christian in the Lutheran church, Ralph believed deeply that the Lord walked beside him throughout his life.
Through his warm, charitable heart, his ornery sense of humor, his passion for the arts, and a deep love for gathering family and friends around a hearty meal, Ralph touched many hearts and left many fond memories.
Ralph is survived by his children, Eric and wife Robyn, of San Jose, Calif., Jennifer and husband Michael, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Jeff and wife Bonnie, of Norfolk, Va., and Aaron and wife Kate, of Granville, Ohio. He delighted in the presence of his granddaughters, Makayla and Grace.
Ralph was preceded in death by five siblings, Walter Jr., Donnell, Jack, Charles and Patricia.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 High St., Worthington, OH 43085. A celebratory memorial service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. June Wilkins will officiate.
His ashes will be buried with family at Orchard Hills Cemetery & Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ralph's memory may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 35 E. Stanton Ave., Columbus, OH, 43214, or Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd., Newark, OH 43055.
