Patrick Hugh Washington went home to be with the Lord on his 77th birthday, June 9, 2017, surrounded by family, after a seven-year battle with cancer.
Born in Indiana and raised in Ebensburg, Patrick's formative years were spent at St. Vincent's Monestary in Latrobe, where he was a member of the scholastica and seminary until 1960. Patrick earned a master of education and juris doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh.
At the time of his passing, he was an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar for 49 years. He held a number of positions with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and retired as an administrative law judge in 2002.
Although Patrick worked most of his life in Harrisburg, he cherished his home in the Susquehanna Valley. He was active in a number of local and statewide boards, including the American Red Cross in Snyder County, and Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers. Patrick was an Eagle Scout and later served as Cub Master at Sharon Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove.
Thanks to the Fellowship and the Higher Power, Patrick would have celebrated his 42nd year of sobriety on June 18.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 32 years, Mary Jo Borrelli, as well as cherished children, Marilyn Rose Washington Hill, Daniel Joseph and Kathleen Joy, and granddaughter Aurelia E.R. Hill. He is also survived by siblings, Sister Marilyn Washington (Mary Rita) CSJ, Robert G. Washington and Barbara L. (Arthur) Messina, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Germaine, mother, Aretta E. (Rita) Schenk, and brother, John Melvin.
A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by a memorial service at 2, with Father Tukura Pius Michael O.P., officiating.
Donations in Patrick's honor may be made to Hope Lodge (AstraZeneca ACS) Cheltenham, PA or Hospice of Evangelical, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
