Nicholas L. Vayda, 67, of Sunbury, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Northumberland, a son of the late Nicholas and Helen (Wirth) Vayda.
He served with the Army during the Vietnam War.
Nick was a former employee of the Sunbury Textile Mill.
He was a member of the Sunbury Elks, the Sunbury Eagles, American Legion Post 44, Northumberland the VFW, and a life member of Northumberland Fire Co. 1 and the Americus Hose Co., Sunbury.
Nick enjoyed detailing and waxing his car, sitting on his porch swing listening to oldies music, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Dreese and husband, Joel, of Northumberland; one son, Chris Vayda and wife, Tammie, of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Justina, Jarrett, Justin and Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Emma; three brothers, Paul Vayda, of Northumberland, John Vayda, of Middleburg, and Terry Vayda, of Sunbury.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m Tuesday.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
