Nancy's Story

Text size

Nancy Sechler Yoder, 78, of York, passed away at home on June 8, 2017, after a year of declining health. She was a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and a caring friend.
She was born March 3, 1939, in Watsontown, a daughter of the late Catherine Elizabeth (West) and Paul Frederick Sechler. She was married to Howard Yoder Jr. who survives.

Nancy was a 1957 graduate of Watsontown High School.
Following a move to York after marrying, she enjoyed a long career at Susquehanna Broadcasting Company/Pfaltzgraff before retiring in 2004.
She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Throughout her life, Nancy was known for her small acts of kindness, whether sharing a bouquet of flowers from her well-tended garden, a batch of the homemade cookies for which she was famous, or a greeting card sent through the mail, she lived to brighten someone's day. She never missed a birthday.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Nancy is survived by one daughter, Brenda Yoder Snead and son-in-law, Warren Leslie Snead Jr., of Richmond, Va.; and her two grandchildren, Warren Leslie Snead III, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Catherine Elizabeth Snead, of Nashville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Mae Sechler.

At her wish, there will be a graveside service in her hometown at the Watsontown Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Ryan Krauss of Watsontown United Methodist Church, officiating.

Nancy's family would like to thank Deanie Taylor King and her compassionate caregivers, especially Terry Arnold and Linda Spangenberger, for their help these past few months.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Nancy's memory to the Watsontown Historical Society, the York County SPCA, or the Children's Home Society of Virginia.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc, PC, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
