Nancy's Story

Nancy Carol Persing, 83, of 449 Walnut St., Sunbury, entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, with her family by her side.

She was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reichenbach. She was married to Harold Vincent Persing who preceded her in death.

Nancy attended Sunbury High School and was a dedicated nurse at the Sunbury Community Hospital for 43 years before her retirement. She was well known for her bedside nursing skills.
She was a lifelong member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury where she served as a past Sunday school teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Association
Nancy was the busiest person that never drove a car. She enjoyed going out to eat with her friends from the hospital and the church. She never missed a birthday party or anniversary and always delivered a card of congratulations to the guest of honor. Her famous hand decorated sugar cookies for all holiday seasons reached all her grandchildren and a lot of people throughout the community.

Nancy is survived by three sons and one daughter and their spouses, David and Kathaleen, Harold "Pork" and Gail, and Michael Persing, all of Sunbury, and Nancy and Tim Niemann, of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Jeremy Martina, of Sunbury, David Jr. and Angela Persing, of Northumberland, Christopher and Betsy Persing, of Danville, Stephanie Persing, of Northumberland, and Scott Persing, of Sunbury; nine great- grandchildren, Brianne Herring, of Sunbury, Hannah, Sarah, and Lily Persing, of Northumberland, Peyton, Ian, and Carson Persing, of Danville, and Jake and Alexis Martina, of Sunbury; two brothers, Leonard Reichenbach, of Goffstown, N.H., and Garon Reichenbach, of Hainesport, N.J.; and brother-in-law, Charles Persing Jr., of Sunbury.
She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Michael Persing, of Sunbury; and one brother, David Reichenbach, of Syracuse, N.Y.

There will be no public viewing. The family will have a private burial service and will announce a memorial service in the near future.
Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions in Nancy's memory may be made to the Catawissa Ave, United Methodist Church, 319 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, PA 17801.
