Miriam E. Yount, 98, Broadway Road, Milton, passed away on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been residing the past year.
She was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Lewis Township, Northumberland County, a daughter of the late George A. and Grace G. (Machamer) Gauger. On Feb. 2, 1940, she married Paul E. Yount and they celebrated 36 years of marriage until his death on May 10, 1976.
Miriam had worked in the cafeteria of the Milton Elementary School many years before retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the Milton Group of the Evangelical Community Hospital Auxiliary; the RiverWoods Auxiliary; AARP; and the Rambler's Club. She attended the Lewisburg Senior Citizen's Center and Lewisburg Christian Women's Group.
Miriam was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Milton for more than 50 years where she was active with the United Methodist Women; the bereavement committee, and the "Jolly Girls" Sunday school class. She was a former Sunday school teacher and sang with the church choir for many years.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert P. and Lois Yount, of Unityville, Donald W. and Emma Jean Yount, of Wellsville, and Dale E. and Pat Yount, of Milton; one daughter, Lois E. Wagner, of Lewisburg; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seen great-great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Leroy Shrawder, of Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley M. Gauger on Nov. 16, 1988 and Curtis W. Gauger on July 5, 2003; and a son-in-law, Thomas Wagner on Nov. 20, 2011.
Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, followed by the funeral at 11, with her pastor, the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating.
Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Miriam's memory may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 102 Lower Market St., Milton, PA 17847.
