Michelle D "Micki" Reed, of Mount Cobb, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, following a long hard-fought journey after her transplant in 2010. She was brave, strong and determined to win this latest battle. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was born in Scranton, a daughter of Mark and Diana (Graybill) Reed, of Mount Cobb.
Micki graduated from North Pocono High School and Northeast Institute of Education. Prior to her transplant, she was employed by Haband as a date entry operator.
Micki was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, Scranton.
Micki loved reading and collecting books, listening to 80s music and shopping for clothes, which she called her retail therapy. She had a special connection with her niece Ava and always loved spending special times with her nieces Kayla and Lexa.
Micki's family would like to extend a special thanks to all of their wonderful friends, neighbors and organizations in the community that supported them during their journey. Her family from near and far were always willing to offer support and assistance whenever they could. We are truly grateful to the Jefferson Township Lions Club for their unending support; Jefferson Township is truly a community with a heart. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff members at UPMC, G-CMC and her good friends at DaVita Dialysis in Dunmore. We are especially grateful to the wonderful family who donated their son's organs to her in 2010, it is because of them and the organ donation program that Micki was able to enjoy almost seven more years of her life.
In addition to her parents, Micki is survived by her brother, Mark D. Reed; her nieces, Kayla, Lexa and Ava Reed; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Renee; and her sister-in-law, Angel.
The funeral service was held Feb. 10, at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St., Spring Brook Township.
Interment was held in Grubbs Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills.
