Michael's Story

Text size

Michael J. Marcinek, 69, of 9 Orchard St., Shamokin, passed away suddenly on July 10, 2017, at his cabin in Weikert.
He was born Sept. 24, 1947, in Shamokin, a son of the late Clara (Bruskey) and Stephen E. Marcinek.

Michael graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Cheshire Academy, Susquehanna University with a bachelor degree in education, and completed a masters equivalency in education from Bloomsburg University.
He was a history teacher for Shamokin Area School District for 37 years. In retirement he taught history courses for Luzerne County Community College. For many years he worked part time for Marcinek Inc.
He was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, the Elks, Knights of Columbus, Trout Unlimited, Union County Sportsmen's Club, SU Football Alumni, a mentor to Boy Scouts for Eagle Scout Award, Board of Director to Fish and Game, treasurer of Total Outdoors, and had perfect attendance at St. Mary's grade school for all eight years.
Michael always brought humor into the room. He was always generous with his time, money, and access to his fishing gear. He was Santa Claus to generations of children, yet always asked his nieces and nephews, "Where are my presents?" He had an abundant supply of noogies for his nieces and nephews. He was the keeper of endless stories of family history, using his crazy sense of humor. He was greatly loved by many and will be greatly missed!

Michael leaves behind his faithful and loving companion, Martha Milbrand, and her grandson, Tyson; one sister, Susan Weisel and her husband Mike, of Endwell, N.Y.; one brother, Stephen Marcinek and his wife Ann, of Selinsgrove; sister-in-law, Jeanne and the late Rick Marcink; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Farrow Funeral Directors, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with a Franciscan Friar as celebrant.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap.
The family will provide flowers. Donations in Michael's memory may be made to Total Outdoors, P.O. Box 11, Weikert, PA 17885, or a charity of your choice.
