Merlin J. Zimmerman, 96, of Crossroads Drive, Lewisburg, passed away on Aug. 14, 2017, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born April 16, 1921, in West Milton, a son of the late Silas M. and Gladys R. (Stauffer) Zimmerman. He was in a loving marriage for more than 70 years with the former Juliann "Judy" Smith who survives.
Merlin was a 1939 graduate of Milton High School. He served in the Army during World War II.
He was the owner of Zimmerman's Plumbing and Heating and he taught HVAC at the SUN Area Vo-Tech.
Merlin was an active and faithful member of the West Milton United Methodist Church, a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, and a life member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsman's Club.
He liked fishing and boating and enjoyed playing golf and bowling, which he did into his 90s. Merlin liked to work and keep active.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis L. and Debra Zimmerman, of Williamsport; one daughter and daughter-in-law, Ann M. Zimmerman and Daree Powell, of Colorado; five grandchildren, Matthew Zimmerman, Suzanne Smedberg, Niki Adams, Shea Adams, and David Shafer; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Merlin was preceded in death by two brothers, Nevin R. and Robert H. Zimmerman; and one sister, Margaret J. Rearick.
Friends and relatives will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, where the funeral will be conducted at noon Monday, with Pastor Christine Mastin officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
