Marvin H. Kratzer, 82, of Reedsville, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Milroy, a son of the late Doyle H. and Hazel M. (Bingaman) Kratzer.
Marvin had drove dump truck for Faylor-Middlecreek and was a bluegrass musician.
He was a fun loving man that loved his kids, playing cards, dice, and bluegrass music. He didn't say he loved us cause that just wasn't the kind of man he was, but we all knew it just the same. He was a great bluegrass player and won first place in many contests. Marvin took Fiddle Player of the Year in 1990. He played with some famous people over the years and was invited to Nashville to perform but he never made it. He was envied by many and was looked up to for his musical talent. He enjoyed just playing with family and friends. Marvin enjoyed life in his own way, traveling from one bluegrass festival to another, playing music and enjoying the people he met.
Daddy, you will be missed but never forgotten! We all love you to the moon and back!! R.I.P. Daddy! We will see you in Heaven one day, love you!!
He is survived by four children, Marvina K. Kratzer and fiance Marc Shilling, of Reedsville, Kathy L. Knepp and husband Glenn Jr., of Yeagertown, Melissa A. Kratzer and fiance Todd A. Eckley, of Reedsville, and Patricia S. Matthews and husband Russell B., of New Lancaster Valley; three brothers, Clifford Kratzer, of Mifflinburg, Doyle H. Kratzer Jr., of Middleburg, and Richard Kratzer Sr., of Milroy; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Raymond Kratzer, Gloria Willow, and Lora Jean Kratzer.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, followed by the funeral at 11, with Pastor John Reed officiating.
Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marvin's memory may be made to Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, 249 W. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
