Martha Carter Hoover, recently of the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:45 a.m. with family by her side.

She was born in Rupert, and had lived in Shamokin most of her life, a daughter of the late Ellen Wright and Lewis Carter. She was married for 57 years to Robert E. Hoover who preceded her in death.

Martha was a seamstress for the Shamokin Dress Company.

She was a lifelong member of the Lincoln Street United Methodist Church which later merged with the First United Methodist Church in Shamokin. Martha was an active member of the church choir and the Women's Sunday school class for many years. Later she enjoyed going to church services at the Masonic Village.

Martha lived with a song in her heart and anyone who knew her learned to sing her favorite songs. Each one of us who shared time with her, received her sweetest gifts of joy, love and laughter.

Martha will be lovingly missed by her family including her four children, Ralph R. Hoover and wife Di'Ann, Lois Richie and husband John R. Richie, Robert D. Hoover and Cheryl A. Hoover and wife Beth Burchfield. Martha loved her grandchildren with all her heart: Michael, Kristina, Lori, Jenn, Dave, Chris; and her great-grandchildren, Alexa, Anthony, Leah, Adam and Makenna.

Martha was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to the Celebration of Life service from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, with the Rev. Deborah Carnish officiating. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 11 a.m. noon prior to the service. A luncheon will be provided immediately after the service.

A private internment will be held at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery, Shamokin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Martha's memory may be made to the Masonic Charities, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
