Marian Tressler, 106, of Sunbury, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at the Sunbury Community Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sunbury.
She was born July 18, 1910, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Grover and Francis (Crone) Shipman.
Marian was the oldest of nine children, five daughters and four sons. With the exception of one girl, who died soon after birth, all children lived to adulthood. All married, and all but two had children. Her sisters were Harriet McCurdy, Louise Evans, Sara Mitchell. Her brothers were John, James, Joseph and Paul Shipman.
Marian graduated from Shamokin High School in the late 1920s, and worked for a number of years for Bell of Pennsylvania.
In 1941, Marian married Carl Francis Tressler, a Shamokin resident. Soon after their marriage Carl was drafted into the Army and served there until the end of World War II. During World War II, Marian lived on the family farm in Sunbury. Marian and Carl had two children, Jeanette and Robert. Throughout her life Marian was a homemaker and she and Carl lived in Shamokin and moved back to Sunbury in 1966.
Marian is survived by her son, Robert of Maryland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and daughter, Jeanette.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church, Wolfe's Crossroads, followed by the funeral at 11.
Interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township.
Marian was a loyal member of the United Lutheran Church in Sunbury, and requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Church, 167 Seven Points Road, Sunbury, PA 17801.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
