Dr. Kevin E. Shafer, 61, of Mifflinburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at Heritage Springs Memory Center, Lewisburg, ending a long illness.
He was born Oct. 27, 1954, a son of the late Edith (Morgan) and Earl Shafer and was raised in Belvidere, N.J.

The four years that followed were spent in Julesburg, Colo., where he was the only doctor for 40 miles. Returning to the east coast, he practiced medicine in Berwick for six years and then came to this area.
Dr. Shafer's great pleasure in life was being in the mountains. In better times he was an avid sportsman, skilled in archery, rifle hunting, and catch and release fly fishing. He also enjoyed and looked forward to annual family vacations to interesting destinations around the world.
