Kenneth E. Kratzer, 69, of the New Berlin Highway, Middleburg, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 17, 2017, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 14, 1947, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Lester Kratzer and Nora Catherine (Heintzelman) Kratzer Reich. On June 26, 1966, he married the former Gloria E. Brown who survives.
Kenneth was a 1965 graduate of Middleburg High School.
He had been employed at Lil Colt in Middleburg, Chef Boy-Ar-Dee in Milton, and retired in 2008 from Wood-Mode in Kreamer. He was a member of Hummels United Methodist Church, Middleburg. Kenneth was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, horseback riding, and playing cards and pool with his family.
He found special pleasure in spending time at the family cabin, but family and especially his grandchildren were his greatest joys.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 50 years are two sons, Wayne A. Kratzer Sr. and his wife Teresa, of Beavertown and Shane E. Kratzer and his fiance Theresa, of Middleburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Nicole D. and Wayne Sechrist, of Kreamer; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Tricia and Brandon Heckman, Amanda and Paul Dievert, Brandon and Tiffany Sechrist, Amber Sechrist, Brittney and Weston Hoffman, Katie Kratzer, Wayne Jr. and Morgan Kratzer, Gracie Kratzer, Morgan Young and Nick Grasso; 11 great-granchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Kenneth Barner, of Millerstown; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Kratzer, of Coudersport, Donna Kratzer, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Jane Kratzer, of New Columbia; five step brothers and sisters, Jean Zechman, of Middleburg and Ronald, Robert, Ted, and Joey Reich, all of Winfield; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Zimmerman, of McClure; sister-in-law, Etta Brown; and uncles, Eugene and James Kahley.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Lester Kratzer, in infancy; two grandsons, Keaton Sechrist and Dayton Kratzer; two brothers, Harvey and David Kratzer; and his step-father, Marvin Reich.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Hummels United Methodist Church, 427 Sassafras Road, Middleburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, with Pastor Carvel K. May officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Contributions to honor Kenneth's memory may be made to Hummels United Methodist Church.
