June F. Young, 89, of Sunbury, entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, with her children by her side.
She was born May 4, 1928, in Sunbury, one of six daughters to the late Palmer and Elsie (Grissinger) Reichenbach. Her father was a well-known barber in Sunbury's Fifth Ward. In 1949, she married Robert W. Young who preceded her in death. The union lasted 47 years until Robert's death in 1996.
June was a 1946 graduate of Sunbury High School.
Her employment with the Shikellamy School District topped the list of her favorite jobs. A diligent custodial worker, she had a special love for the children in the cafeteria where she also performed duties as a lunch lady assistant.
June was a member of the Humane Society. Her affection for cats sparked the "Cats Hall of Fame" wall.
In retirement, June and Robert enjoyed trips to Gettysburg and other Civil War battlefields. They were adventures with his "Junebug". Among her favorite pastimes were old movies, recipes, playing cards, and luncheons with the tea party gang.
Oh Mother, where did the years go? It was only yesterday as children we brought you lilacs for Mother's Day. Your love, concern, and giving heart have touched us all.
June is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Carl Hoover, and Colleen and Jeffrey Heim, all of Sunbury; seven grandchildren, Chelsea Reitenbach, Joshua Hoover, Caleb Hoover, and Adam Heim, Jordan Heim, all of Sunbury, Tasha Baclawski, of Malden, Mass., and Johanna Wolfe, of Maitland, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Noma Aucker, of Freeburg, and Mary Deitman, of Gettysburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Herring, Doris Markowski, and Rachel Vonada.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11, with John E. Reitenbach officiating.
